Interview with Lee Bradshaw on Al Qahera News

We sat down with Australian composer Lee Bradshaw and Principal Conductor Nayer Nagui to talk about the world premiere of Bradshaw’s requiem “For Those Left Behind” in Egypt.

Nayer Nagui is an Egyptian composer, conductor, musical director and pianist. He regularly conducts orchestras both in Egypt and internationally and is the founder and director of the Cairo Celebration Choir. Together with his wife, Dina Iskander, Nayer conceived of and commissioned Requiem, preparing and conducting the choirs and orchestras in performance. 

Dani and Lee sit down post concert and discuss the background and inspiration for the Requiem. Lee described the liturgical and non-liturgical choices he made and how they relate to the concept of solace. 

Alto soloist, Thalie Knights, has a rich and varied repertoire of music performances and experiences. She also sang the title role (covering for Dame Sarah Connolly) in Zarqa al-Yamama, the first opera produced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, also composed by Lee Bradshaw. 

Aleksandar is currently a main soloist at Stadttheater Pforzheim in Germany, where he performs the leading bass roles. He performed the lead role of King Amliq in Bradshaw's Zarqa al-Tamama in Saudi Arabia. 

Soprano Dina Iskander not only featured as a soloist in Requiem, but, together with her husband, Nayer Nagui was responsible for the creation of the entire work. Conceiving of and commissioning the piece over a year ago Dina and Nayer brought the piece to life.
